CommunityExchange&PeerSupport-Nebbi

Fostering resilience and mutual learning through intergenerational dialogue.

During Muundo Foundation's cultural excursion to Nebbi District, community support and psychosocial care were embedded through a community exchange and peer-led engagement at SmartUp Nebbi Youth Hub.

As part of the visit, Muundo members - including people living with vitiligo - collectively contributed essential livelihood items such as clothing and stationery, mobilised through community networks in Kampala including Makerere University.

Disrupting Stigma

Importantly, the exchange was intentionally designed to disrupt common stigma narratives. In many communities, people living with vitiligo are perceived as those who should receive support.

"In Nebbi, they arrived instead as contributors, facilitators, and peers - creating space for conversation, curiosity, and re-imagined social roles."

Intergenerational Dialogue

The visit enabled deep connections with older individuals who had lived with vitiligo for many years. These informal conversations became moments of guidance and reassurance, where lived experience was shared across age and geography.

Sharing perspective, coping strategies, and encouragement to younger members proved vital for collective confidence.

Collective Resilience

This engagement reflects Muundo's approach: fostering environments where people experiencing social exclusion are not positioned as recipients of care alone, but as active participants in collective resilience, mutual learning, and social connection.
