Muundo Community Exhibition

About Us

Restoring knowledge to restore dignity. Guided by identity, resilience, and the power of creative expression.

Foundational Initiative

Who We Are

Muundo Foundation began as a grassroots artistic initiative born from personal encounters with stigma, cultural myths, and exclusion surrounding vitiligo in Uganda. Over time, it has grown into a nationally and internationally recognized platform for art-based advocacy, inclusion, and creative entrepreneurship.

The name Muundo means patterns — reflecting identity, difference, resilience, and the beauty of diversity. Through art and culture, we humanize lived experience, counter misinformation, and create spaces where people experiencing social exclusion are seen, heard, and valued.

Our Origin

Born from Visual Resistance

Muundo Foundation was founded in 2021 as a response to the systemic exclusion and stigma faced by people living with vitiligo in Uganda.

What began as a single art project — the hyperrealist Part of Us drawing series — has evolved into a strategic organisation using art, culture, and storytelling to transform social narratives and scale economic inclusion.

Why Muundo Exists

In Uganda and across many societies, people with vitiligo continue to face:

Harmful myths and superstition
Social stigma and shame
Exclusion from employment and public life
Limited access to accurate information
Psychological and emotional distress

While medical professionals address the clinical dimensions of vitiligo, Muundo addresses the cultural, social, emotional, and economic dimensions — using art, culture, storytelling, and creative enterprise as tools for systemic change.

Mission

To transform the lives of people experiencing social exclusion by using art, culture, and creative entrepreneurship to restore dignity, build knowledge, and expand opportunity.
