Global Storytelling Exchange: Muundo × Colorful Connections
World Vitiligo Month

In partnership with: Colorful Connections Inc. (USA)

During World Vitiligo Month 2024, Muundo Foundation partnered with Colorful Connections Inc., a U.S.-based vitiligo advocacy organisation, to facilitate a cross-continental storytelling and dialogue initiative linking vitiligo communities in Uganda and the United States.

Colorful Connections Inc.

The collaboration was designed to bridge geographic and cultural distance through digital exchange. Community members from Uganda were invited to share lived experiences of vitiligo — including personal reflections, questions, and observations — using formats most comfortable to them, such as written narratives, audio recordings, or video messages. These contributions were then integrated into conversations and panels convened by Colorful Connections across multiple U.S. cities during Vitiligo Awareness Month.

Rather than a one-directional awareness exercise, the initiative prioritised reciprocity and dialogue. Questions from the Ugandan community were posed to U.S.-based advocates, clinicians, creatives, and mental health practitioners, allowing for an exchange of perspectives on stigma, care, visibility, and belonging across different social and healthcare contexts.

Strategic Focus

Muundo’s role centred on community coordination, narrative curation, and ethical storytelling, ensuring that contributions from Uganda were gathered with consent, care, and dignity.

Through digital platforms and virtual participation, local experiences were able to travel into international advocacy spaces — positioning Ugandan voices within a broader global conversation on vitiligo.

This collaboration reflects Muundo’s approach to digital advocacy: using online platforms not simply for visibility, but as spaces for cross-border learning, solidarity, and narrative equity.

It also demonstrates the Foundation’s commitment to building international partnerships that centre lived experience and expand the reach of community-authored knowledge.
